Senior Buyer
Fixed Term Contract for 18 months
Location: Shoreham-by-Sea
 
Key accountabilities:
  • Meeting with Clients to discuss/define requirements and coordinate supply chain activities between suppliers, clients and Engineering/project teams.
  • Maintain and promote relationships with clients and suppliers.
  • Procurement of project goods including bespoke parts/tooling manufactured from drawings, along with design/development, and other technical services.
  • Competitive bidding (RFQ), negotiating prices / added value and reporting cost-reduction achievements.
  • Liaising with suppliers and Engineering teams on design feasibility issues, expediting orders and agreeing concessions or return rejects.
  • Control spends against budget and forecasting to completion of project.
  • Identification & evaluation, performing due diligence, assessing financial risk, sustainability, of potential supply partners.
  • Negotiation, contracting, and risk evaluation, working closely with SQA of/with UK and international suppliers.
  • Ownership of the end-to-end, purchase-to-pay process for projects assigned.
  • Coordination and Maintenance of supplier held tooling registers.
  • Reporting out on your project status, where you are with given tasks, systems or commodities.
  • Actively supporting the company procurement community in identification & development of procurement best-practise across all business divisions.
  • Take an active lead in Make vs Buy strategy in conjunction with our manufacturing teams.
  • Leading cost estimation activities during product concept phases.
  • Supporting the business development team on bid preparation and pitching to clients for procurement activities.
  • Working alongside clients, suppliers, engineering and programme management to determine and plan development and pre-production parts requirements.
  • Preparing RFQ packs (downloading drawings/CAD files etc)
  • Analysing RFQ feedback and making sourcing decisions based on project requirements and best value.
  • Preparing supplier nomination packs for stakeholder approval.
  • Ownership of the Purchase Requisition/approval process to ensure compliance with internal and legislative controls.
  • Order placement and management/ownership with UK and international suppliers.
  • Order confirmation and acknowledgement to ensure accuracy of all order details and delivery to plan.
  • Investigating & solving invoice queries in a timely manner.
  • Placement of assembly/facility and supplier tooling orders in line with programme plans to ensure programme timings maintained.
  • Liaising with suppliers and engineering teams on design feasibility issues, DFM, changes, expediting orders and agreeing concessions or return of non-conforming parts.
  • Coordination & maintenance of spend tracker (BoM items, assembly/facility equipment, supplier tooling)
 
Additional/special features of the role:
  • Strong experience of NPI and Procurement Process or a similar role where skills can be transferred into the objective’s description above, preferably gained within the automotive or marine sector.
 
Essential technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualification:
  • Experience working in an Automotive, Marine, Engineering or manufacturing environment essential.
  • Strong data management skills and IT literacy. Experience with SAP & Info LN Purchasing an advantage.
  • Strong business acumen, attention to detail, accurate, numerically astute.
  • Strong negotiation skills with an ability to close the deal in short time frames.
  • Strong customer focus with a flexible approach to succeed in a fast-moving environment.
  • Knowledge of BoM’s, PO Processes, familiarity with technical drawings.
  • A working knowledge of contract law and experience in contract negotiation, implementation and management.
  • Ability to communicate well within a cross-functional team and at all levels.
  • Membership of Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) is desirable.
  • Demonstrates the highest integrity and ethical values in dealing with clients, suppliers, and colleagues.
  • Ability to self-manage and demonstrate resilience/robustness when working to challenging targets.
  • An understanding of the principles of sustainable procurement and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors.
  • Attention to detail, accurate, numerically astute.
  • A strong team player and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to communicate and present effectively to suppliers and clients at all levels.
  • Flexibility to support travel to suppliers domestic and internationally and holder of a driving licence.
 
Desirable technical and professional skills, knowledge and qualification:
  • A knowledge of marine outboards and marine outboard systems for this role would be advantageous.
