Hyde is looking to recruit a Principal Lawyer (Housing Management).

As a Principal Lawyer (Housing Management) at Hyde, you will be working within the Legal (Housing Management) team to lead and deliver Housing Management legal services across the Hyde Group. This includes overseeing and conducting all Housing Management litigation cases and providing strategic legal advice to support Hyde’s business objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver legal services to the Hyde Group, including handling disputes related to anti-social behaviour, complex arrears possession cases, housing succession matters, access injunction proceedings, judicial review applications, and Equality Act claims.
  • Meet agreed KPIs and ensure the delivery of management information relevant to the above areas, ensuring value for money.
  • Design and deliver training to client departments in accordance with the agreed training schedule and business demand.
  • Act as one of the team leaders within the Legal Team in making recommendations to the Head of Legal (Housing Operations) and the General Counsel on best practice in delivering its objectives and implementing initiatives.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of legal workstreams, tracking of litigation, fee budgets, and invoicing.
  • Manage, supervise, and mentor a team of Housing Management Lawyers and other legal staff.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Qualified solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of ILEX with a current practicing certificate in England and Wales, with a minimum of circa 7 years PQE.
  • In-depth understanding of property law, housing law, tenancy agreements, regulatory compliance, and other relevant legal areas.
  • Significant experience working as a housing lawyer, preferably with a background in social housing or a related field and managing complex legal cases.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory environment affecting housing associations, including health and safety regulations, data protection laws, and housing standards.
  • Proficiency in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various legal documents such as leases, contracts, and agreements.
  • Ability to handle and resolve disputes through litigation, arbitration, mediation, or other forms of dispute resolution.
  • Leadership and People Management Skills: Ability to manage, supervise and mentor a team of staff.
