Outreach Learning Support Assistant

Role Overview:
As an Outreach Learning Support Assistant, you will provide dedicated 1:1 support for a capable young female student with anxiety and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) traits. She struggles with social communication, interaction skills, and flexibility of thought, especially when anxious. She enjoys creative writing, reading, cookery, and going out, and prefers to be offered choices rather than direct support. Your role will involve helping her manage her anxiety, building friendships, and providing support during emotionally induced verbal and physical behaviours.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide personalised 1:1 support tailored to the student's needs during home sessions, community outings, and other settings.
- Assist in developing and implementing individualised learning and support plans.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment to help the student stay calm and engaged.
- Support the student in developing academic, social, and emotional skills.
- Monitor and report on the student's progress and behaviour.
- Manage anxiety and provide emotional support, especially during times of stress.
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to ensure cohesive support for the student.
- Facilitate communication between the college, the student, and the family.
- Assist with the preparation and adaptation of learning materials to suit the student's interests and needs.
- Participate in training and professional development to stay current with best practices in supporting students with special needs.
- Engage with the student's interests, such as creative writing, reading, cookery, and outdoor activities, to build rapport and support learning.
- Support the student in building friendships and improving social interaction skills.
- Provide choices and alternatives to help the student feel more in control and less anxious.

Requirements:
- Experience working with students with anxiety, PDA traits, or other special educational needs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the student.
- A proactive and supportive approach to student engagement and learning.
- Trustworthiness and the ability to build a strong rapport with the student.
- Relevant qualifications in education or support work are desirable.

If you are passionate about making a difference in students' lives and have the skills and experience we are looking for, we would love to hear from you.
