Medication Officer

Based in Norwich

Salary: £24,000 - £26,000 per annum

Monday – Friday; Full Time,37.5 hours per week (some flexibility with days/hours can be offered)

We are looking for a Medication Officer to work for Hales Group covering Norwich, Dereham and Great Yarmouth. This is a newly created position and offers the right candidate an opportunity to shape and enhance the consistency of services and support we offer to both our staff and service users.  It is essential that applicants have previous experience of working in a care setting; whether that be residential or domiciliary care as well as strong organisational, administrative and IT skills. Previous quality assurance experience in a care setting would be an advantage.

In the role of Medication Officer duties will include:

  • Monthly visits to service users across Norwich, Dereham and Gt Yarmouth to collect and distribute medication charts
  • The review and auditing of medication charts on a routine basis
  • Identify, document and complete any follow up actions from monthly audits
  • Work closely with our training and care teams to ensure any additional training needs are identified and actioned
  • Be involved in the initial set up of care packages to ensure medication needs are assessed and the correct daily routines implemented
  • When necessary liaise with Pharmacists, District Nursing teams and GPs to maintain accurate information in relation to the medication
  • Support the Registered Managers with the reporting and recording of any medication incidents, assessing risk and recommending follow up actions

Applicants must have previous experience of working in home care or residential care administering medication. Previous audit experience would be a distinct advantage. You will also need to be IT literate in Microsoft Office and competent and open to learning new IT systems. A keen eye for detail is a must as you will be required to complete audits and identify trends and themes. With your excellent communication skills you will work alongside our training team and support carers to address any areas of improvement or further training needs.

The office base of the role will be Norwich but much of the working week will be spent in the community with service users. Some flexibility may be offered in relation to hours and days worked providing the core responsibilities can be achieved.
