The company was established in London in 1946, since then they’ve grown operations across France, Germany, the USA and China. A specialist supplier of high-quality metal, alloys, ceramics, polymers and other materials, for research, development and specialist production within science and industry worldwide.

The Role

France is a key market for the company and the role of the Account Manager is to create opportunities to grow business within the existing customer base, as well as prospecting for and supporting the development of new or high potential customers. This is a hybrid role incorporating a degree of office and field-based activity with the expectation that the employee will spend an amount of their time visiting customers across France.

The Account Manager will be expected to deliver sales growth, achieving revenue targets while maximising both margins and gross sales across their key accounts. Core activity will include identifying business opportunities and working with internal and external stakeholders to convert these into sales. This is a high-profile role within the organisation and provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to and shape the company’s overall sales strategy and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify new contacts, leads and opportunities within territory & customer base
  • Customer enquiry and opportunity management
  • Develop and manage sales with current and new customers
  • Proactively identify and respond to potential sales, purchasing or marketing opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Technical Support group to develop opportunities and sales of more complex non catalogue enquiries
  • Grow territory & customer revenue while maintaining or increasing average margin percentages
  • Manage sales enquiry processing for bespoke products
  • Manage sales enquiry management for territory & customers
  • Manage customer portfolio ensuring database is accurate and up to date
  • Participate in sales and marketing campaigns and other activities to retain/regain lost customers

Skills and Qualifications

  • Native level French language – both spoken and written – as communication with French market customer base is in local language. Fluent English also required for internal communication. Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Developing, influencing, negotiating and relationship building skills both with internal and external partners.
  • Experience of visiting customers in a sales capacity. Willingness to visit customers across the French territory.
  • Ability to drive communication and collaboration across a team as well as an ability to work on own initiative.
  • Creative and results driven.
  • Ability to extract and analyse data, experience using CRM systems, understanding of customer activity patterns and purchasing trends.
  • Well-organized with a customer-oriented approach.
  • Excellent presentation skills including writing and editing PowerPoint.
  • Undergraduate degree or higher in a scientific discipline (engineering, physics, chemistry, etc.) and some direct sales experience OR a proven track record in the sales arena, selling into their clients’ industries, would be an advantage.
