The Role will be a 6-month contract for a property maintenance engineer/Joiner, paying £21 - 23 via Umbrella/CIS.

The responsibilities and duties of the role will include the following:

  • To carry out reactive and planned maintenance tasks ensuring that any down-time is minimised; investigating and seeking solutions to complex building faults and failures. Communicating with stakeholders with regards to scheduled interruptions or disturbances to the building, and providing technical updates on effects to their buildings caused by the interruptions or disturbances
  • Communicating and negotiating with Building Managers/users and  to persuade them to embrace change
  • Prioritise, plan and carry out your own allocated tasks including purchasing parts and coordinating with other trades in accordance with the departments SLAs.
  • Attend capital project site meetings; actively engage with Soft Landings process for new building handover
  • Support the upskilling of the building team and actively engage with the apprentice training programme, providing support and training as required
  • To understand the relevant legislation and regulations relating to building works, site management and contractor control which apply to organisations building projects, such as the CDM Regulations 2015, and to follow regulations when carrying out repairs and complete any necessary documentation relating to these when required.
  • Advise on the implications of building alterations (such as the replacement of individual window or cladding panels) on the overall airtightness and energy performance of the building as a whole
  • To investigate where repeat building faults require more substantial building repairs or refurbishment projects, to hand these issues on to Building Inspectors team in a timely manner, and to help to identify at the earliest opportunity where such projects might also offer the opportunity to improve the energy performance of the building(s) overall.
  • Ensure that the Head of DLO and Conservation and Building Team are fully aware of any deterioration in building condition to enable strategic decisions regarding future planned maintenance and capital project work prioritisation
  • Act as Authorised Person (AP) for appropriate permits to work system to enable work to be carried out by DLO team members, or supervised contractors.
  • Have responsibility for directing works to contractors, managing contractor’s onsite and ensuring that work is completed within DLO purchasing guidelines, SLA’s, and contractors risk assessments and method statements. 
  • Deputise for the Building Supervisor, attending the weekly Building Inspectors team meeting or quarterly contractor meetings as requested; providing technical updates on current building fabric issues and resolution suggestions.
