Hours: 40 hours per week

Main Purpose of the Role:

As the Assistant Head of School (with responsibility for SENDCO), you will collaborate with the Head of School, Principal, and the wider Senior Leadership Team to provide professional leadership and management within SEND. Your role will be crucial in ensuring high-quality teaching, enhanced learning standards, and continuous professional development for staff to support all learners. You will play a central role in advancing the school's development plans and shared values.

Key Duties:

Work closely with the Principal and Head of School in the daily management of the school, including recruitment, policy development, staff meetings, arranging cover, and organizing school events such as open days and parents' evenings.
Support the continuous professional development (CPD) of classroom-based staff through quality training opportunities, managing the inset program, and providing/sourcing training for staff.
Collate evidence for specific sections of the school’s self-assessment report, focusing on standards and attainment.
Report to governance on learning progress, school improvement plans, and the evaluation of attendance, standards, and quality of provision.
Develop and implement a diverse, flexible curriculum and an effective assessment framework throughout the school.
Raise standards in teaching and learning for pupils, teachers, and teaching assistants across relevant key stages.
Ensure all pupil provisions within designated key stages are appropriate, differentiated, and effective.
Ensure the curriculum and school timetable meet statutory requirements and reflect the needs of the pupils.
Monitor pupil progress, identify gaps and underachievement, and suggest ways to address these issues.
Promote positive relationships with parents and carers to support and enhance pupils' learning and achievement.
Contribute to the development of the school community, strengthening partnerships with families, local community, other schools, services, and the local authority.

Duties may vary, and flexibility is expected to support the school wherever needed.

Qualifications:

Recognized teacher training qualification – Cert Ed. / PGCE / QTS or QTLS / Diploma in Teaching (essential)
National award for special educational needs co-ordinator (NASENCO) or within 18 months of starting the post (desirable)
Accredited training in specific areas of special education, e.g., Autism, Dyslexia (desirable)
Management/leadership qualification (desirable)

Experience:

Proven track record of excellent teaching within a special needs environment.
Experience in implementing policies into effective and successful practice.
Leadership experience in a significant area or phase, including responsibility for raising standards across the school.
Effective team management and collaboration skills.
Strong communication skills, capable of engaging with diverse audiences through various mediums.
Successful management of complex scenarios and conflict resolution.
Experience working successfully with a range of external agencies.
