CNC Milling Setter/Operator

Background and Role

An innovative organisation in a specialist defence-related industry is seeking a skilled Setter/Operator to join their team. The successful candidate must be able to pass security vetting upon employment.

The Person

The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled professional, preferably time-served, with extensive experience in CNC machining within a Milling Setter/Operator role. The individual should demonstrate exceptional concentration, attention to detail, and mechanical aptitude. The primary objective is to produce high-quality parts within a precision engineering environment.

Primary Job Function

Utilize key skills in the development, manufacture, testing, and support of the Company’s projects and development demands efficiently to meet customers’ tight timescales.

Key Skills

Proven experience as a CNC Setter/Operator

Proficiency in operating CNC machinery and tooling, as well as precision measurement tools

Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings

Computer literacy with the ability to edit and adjust CNC programs

Mechanical aptitude and strong math skills

Keen eye for detail and a results-driven approach

Good communication abilities

Ability to work effectively as part of a small team

Experience with HAAS CNC machines is advantageous

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling and milling
  • Understand specifications of the task and desired result by reading engineering and mechanical drawings
  • Conduct test runs to validate both new and existing CNC programs
  • Supervise machines during task execution, make necessary adjustments to improve results, and inspect finished products to ensure proper completion of processes
  • Daily maintenance checks to ensure machinery functionality

Experience

  • Preferably 5+ years in an engineering/manufacturing environment

Education/Qualifications Required

  • Computer literate
  • City & Guilds or NVQ Equivalent
