The Operations Manager plays a critical role in overseeing and optimizing organizational processes within the Power and Energy Connections sector. They ensure the safe and efficient generation of electricity while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.  

This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in the Energy connections and Power infrastructure industries to grow & develop within the business. Someone who is an experienced Senior Project Manager or Portfolio Manager to become a subject matter expert and assist in leading the business to reach its goals within the market.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategies aligned with the company's goals. 
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to foster knowledge exchange and continuous improvement.
  • Analyse departmental budgets to optimize profitability.
  • Inspire and motivate employees through positive encouragement and incentive initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of operational excellence.
  • Line manage Project Managers leading delivery teams.
  • Set and review annual objectives for team members.
  • Proactively explore cost-saving measures and operational efficiencies
  • Review monthly budgets with Project Managers, reconciling against resource and material levels.
  • Champion sustainability initiatives, integrating environmental and social considerations.

Experience

Minimum 8-10 years in Project Management, including people management.

Experience in the Power and Energy Sector

Qualifications

HV Electrical Engineering Degree (preferred)

Additional certifications: APM, CSCS.

PTS (Not essential)

Technical skills

Design and Planning:

High Voltage Infrastructure Design: Engineers must be proficient in designing HV substations, cable routes, and earthing systems for voltages ranging from 11kV to 400kV1.

Grid Applications:

Understanding the process of connecting to the high voltage transmission system involves navigating complex grid applications and requirements2.

Feasibility Studies:

Assessing the feasibility of HV grid connections, considering factors like location, load demand, and environmental impact.

Power System Studies:

Conducting studies to analyse grid stability, fault levels, and protection coordination.

Construction and Commissioning:

Substation Construction: Knowledge of constructing HV substations, including equipment installation, wiring, and safety protocols.

Commissioning:

Ensuring that the newly built infrastructure operates correctly and meets safety standards.

Compliance and Regulations:

G99 and G100 Compliance: Familiarity with the Grid Code requirements for connecting generation equipment to the grid, including compliance with G99 (for small-scale generators) and G100 (for larger installations)3.

Project Management Skills: Coordinating various stakeholders, managing timelines, and ensuring successful project delivery.
