As an Electrical Design Technical Lead, you will provide technical leadership for the engineering assessment, design and safety justification of the SMR300 for deployment in UK and worldwide. You will be directly responsible for delivering technical scope of high integrity/complex electrical systems within the Electrical discipline, as well as taking ownership of the of the electrical engineering chapter of the Safety Case for submission to the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) for use in the Generic Design Assessment (GDA).

The Electrical Design Technical Lead will build strong relationship with the US SMR electrical team. The UK GDA is a critical element for commercial deployment of SMR-300 word-wide, and this role provides a unique opportunity in an exciting emerging technology and energy marketplace.

Experience should include:

  • Experience in nuclear power station electrical system design, specifically on-site distribution (AC and DC), off site interfaces (substation), grounding and lighting protection, plant lighting systems, battery system, diesel generators.
  • Developing nuclear safety functional requirements for electrical systems
  • Experience with applicable (including nuclear-specific) IEEE, IEC, EPRI, ISA, and ANSI codes and standards.
  • Evidence of providing technical leadership for complex electrical design engineering projects

Specific Areas of Responsibility:

  • Lead on Electrical Systems Engineering of AC/DC power systems for operational and emergency needs
  • Lead development and implementation of SMR-300 electrical design strategy for Grid Compliance and 50/60Hz design conversion
  • Demonstrate SMR-300 Electrical architecture suitability for safety functional claims
  • Oversight, as Intelligent Customer, of key evidence supporting safety claims
  • Support the development of the Electrical chapter of the Safety Case for submission in the SMR-300 GDA.
  • Coach and mentor to develop the team and the individuals in technical and personal skills enabling them to deliver.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to internal and external organizations including the nuclear regulators.
  • Defend electrical design positions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in an engineering or science related discipline.
  • Must possess excellent credentials in principles of electrical engineering.
  • Ability to work independently and balance competing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Able to engage credibly within and external to the business.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills - able to present at multiple organisational levels and to external regulatory stakeholders.
  • A credible decision maker, able to create confidence through crafting of strong justifications and arguments.
  • Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810.
