Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer

Location: Chirnside, Scottish Borders
Schedule: Monday to Friday, day shift, 37.5 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £35,000.00 - £45,000.00 per year, plus benefits

Role and Responsibilities:

As an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer, you will be an integral part of the Maintenance Team, ensuring that maintenance work is carried out efficiently and on time to enhance plant reliability and operational efficiency. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Safety Commitment: Incorporate "Take 2" safety practices into your daily routine, fostering a zero-harm environment to protect yourself and others.
  • Technical Support: Provide expert technical support for the installation, fault diagnosis, and maintenance of electrical, instrumentation, and control equipment specific to the paper mill operations.
  • Proactive Maintenance: Execute planned proactive tasks according to shutdown schedules.
  • Reactive Maintenance: Address reactive maintenance needs as they arise to support business operations.
  • System Development: Design, develop, test, maintain, and modify new and existing electrical and control systems to ensure safety and efficiency tailored to paper mill operations.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental guidelines, including adherence to the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and The Measuring Instruments Regulations 2016.
  • Project Participation: Contribute to the planning and execution of OPEX and CAPEX budgeted activities and projects.
  • Asset Management: Develop and implement asset maintenance and replacement plans to optimise performance, reduce downtime, and minimise maintenance costs.
  • Maintenance Programmes: Review and implement maintenance programmes that meet statutory, OEM, and industry-specific requirements.
  • CMMS Auditing: Audit the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS-MaintainX) to ensure accurate and up-to-date maintenance records.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as specified by the Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Supervisor and Engineering Manager.

Qualifications:

  • A recognised apprenticeship scheme and a minimum of 3 years of experience in an Electrical, Control & Instrumentation maintenance team within a heavy engineering manufacturing environment.
  • Relevant qualifications in your trade.
  • Proficiency with 400v electrical distribution and control systems, Advanced Process Control (APC), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Familiarity with HV distribution systems is advantageous but not essential.

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to train and mentor apprentices.
  • Willingness to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Flexibility to cover shifts is desirable.
