Business Development Director (Defence & Government Markets)

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Business Development Director to lead our efforts in the Defense & Government markets. This leadership role is crucial in driving the organization’s growth by aligning strategic plans with the company’s goals, enhancing market presence, and fostering relationships within the sector.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Execution:

  • Align strategic plans with company growth objectives and General Manager P&L goals.
  • Drive success through effective leadership, strategic planning, and relationship management in the Defense & Government market.
  • Measure success by opportunity, order book growth, and conversion.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with General Managers and teams to align resource plans with forecasts.
  • Support workforce planning to meet business demands.

Business Development:

  • Lead efforts to identify and secure new business opportunities.
  • Guide teams through the bid process to achieve business growth targets.

Opportunity Forecasting:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to support resource planning and opportunity forecasting.

Marketing & Communications:

  • Develop marketing plans for events and promotions.
  • Contribute to bid decision processes and marketing strategies.

Internal Stakeholder Management:

  • Build strong internal relationships and capabilities within the organization.

Market & Campaign Planning:

  • Produce market and campaign plans to support order intake targets.
  • Ensure alignment with overall business objectives.

Innovative Business Models:

  • Explore new business models and partnerships to enhance market presence.

Team Development:

  • Grow, mentor, coach, and train a UK Business Development team.
  • Improve success rates and support professional growth.
  • Compliance:

    • Ensure all activities comply with governance and ethical standards.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Education

  • Degree in Business Administration or equivalent field.

Experience:

  • Extensive experience in the Defense & Government markets, MOD, FCDO etc (UK, EU, or International), ideally with a background as an end user.
  • Experience in business winning, strategy development, key account management, and successful order book management.
  • Strong technical knowledge of the Defense & Government market environment.

Skills:

  • Senior leadership experience in similar roles with demonstrable soft and hard sales skills.
  • Strategic acumen to navigate opportunity pursuits and convert ‘must win’ projects at pace.
  • Broad and diverse network across governmental and regulatory stakeholders in the UK and internationally.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for in-person interactions with clients.
