We are working with an established Manufacturing company based in Newton Aycliffe, UK. 

They are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. In return for a salary in the region £35.000 - £45.000 along with excellent employment benefits.

The primary purpose of the Mechanical Design Engineer role is to design and develop conveyor systems to the specified brief and produce the associated technical documentation e.g. drawings, bill of materials, manuals, etc.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Design and develop conveyor systems to specified brief.
  • Produce 3D models and technical drawings in accordance with company CAD standards.
  • Produce technical documentation in accordance with company standards.
  • Manage drawings, bill of materials, and technical documents using company systems.
  • Undertake peer reviews of colleagues’ work (drawings, models, documentation, etc.)
  • Ensure design compliance with project brief, relevant standards, and regulations.
  • Carry out technical analysis of designs with a view to improving DfMA and system functionality.
  • Undertake site visits and surveys to support successful delivery of projects.
  • Provide support to other areas of the business when engineering knowledge is required.
  • Provide support and guidance to junior team members when required.

Requirements:

  • Good 3D CAD software knowledge (Autodesk Inventor preferred) (essential)
  • Good knowledge of drafting standards and technical drawing (essential)
  • Good PDM system knowledge (Autodesk Vault preferred) (desirable)
  • Good understanding of the design process, and its associated documentation (essential)
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes and techniques (essential)
  • Good understanding of mechanical design principles (essential)
  • Basic understanding of electrical design principles (desirable)
  • Good knowledge of conveyor systems and associated hardware (desirable)
  • Good understanding of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) (essential)
  • Basic understanding of checking the work of peers (designs, drawings, docs) (essential)
  • Qualified in a relevant design or engineering discipline (HNC, degree, etc.) (essential)
  • Basic knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) (desirable)
  • Proficient at using Microsoft Office applications (essential)
  • Ability to clearly communicate design ideas (essential)
  • Ability to cope with the pressure of deadlines (essential)
  • Ability to manage own workload & work on multiple projects (essential)
