Job Description:

Nutrix Medical is seeking an experienced and skilled Surgical First Assistant (SFA) to join our healthcare team in Huddersfield. As an SFA, you will be a crucial member of the surgical team, providing direct assistance to surgeons during operative procedures. Your role is vital in ensuring patient safety, surgical efficiency, and the highest standards of care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Surgeons: Provide hands-on support to surgeons during a variety of surgical procedures, including retraction, suctioning, tissue handling, and wound closure.
  • Operating Room Preparation: Ensure that the operating room is prepared with all necessary sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies before surgery begins.
  • Patient Care: Collaborate with the surgical team to position patients appropriately for surgery, monitor their condition throughout the procedure, and assist with post-operative care.
  • Documentation: Accurately document surgical procedures, including patient details, surgical techniques used, and any complications that arise.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a smooth and efficient surgical process.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all hospital policies, health and safety regulations, and clinical guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant qualification as a Surgical First Assistant (e.g., PA with surgical training, ODP with surgical first assistant qualification, or equivalent).
  • At least 2 years of experience as an SFA in a clinical or hospital setting.
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or other relevant professional bodies.
  • Strong understanding of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and patient care protocols.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
