Pertemps are recruiting for an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer to join the Safeguarding and Reviewing Unit in Bradford.
The IRO must have an in-depth knowledge of the Care Planning Regulations and the IRO Handbook. They must have the professional authority to hold the Local Authority to account for the way that it cares for Looked After Children.
The individual IRO can have a caseload of 85-90 children. The IRO is expected to be able to manage a large caseload and be autonomous and self-motivating referring back to the Service Manager where there are complex issues that need resolving.

Main duties:
- To monitor the Local Authority’s review of looked after children’s care plans, ensuring that actions required to implement the care plan are progressed and carried out in a timely manner and that outcomes are monitored.
- To endorse care plans, make and record recommendations and actions that are required to meet the reviewed child’s needs, achieving timely outcomes.
- To make recommendations about discontinuing the child protection plans for children subject to such plans who become looked after.
- To refer to relevant Senior Managers cases and practice that are not addressing the care plan and to implement guidance and procedure for the referral to CAFCASS where the criteria for doing so is met.
- To meet with children to ascertain their wishes and feelings and ensure that this are considered within the planning and review process.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in a related field.
- Experience of all service user groups and with users from ethnic minorities.
- Experience of residential and family placement services.
- Experience of child protection work.
- Professional Social Work qualification DipSW or equivalent.
- Registered with the SWE
