Senior or Principal Structural Engineer

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Structural Engineer to join our Central Engineering team within the UK & Global IRM department. The role involves working in a technical, challenging, and diverse environment, supporting the execution of structural design scopes on both tenders and live projects. The successful candidate will bring extensive expertise in the field of structural engineering and analysis of offshore and subsea structures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Expertise: Deliver specialist skills, integrity, and knowledge in key areas of structural engineering, particularly focused on offshore and subsea structures. Stay updated with design codes, legislative requirements, and current good engineering practices.
  • Project Deliverables: Take responsibility for producing and checking high-quality deliverables, including design reports, engineering support documents, design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, and progress reports. This may also involve bid evaluations, study reports, and various third-party submissions.
  • Design & Detailing: Conduct design and detailing work in accordance with industry codes, standards, design guidelines, client specifications, and scopes of work. Ensure thorough production and checking of design documentation such as feasibility reports, detailed design reports, and equipment specifications.
  • Structural Analysis: Perform stress analysis for various offshore and subsea structures using industry-standard software tools such as STAAD Pro, FS2000, ANSYS, and ABAQUS, or similar.
  • Site Support: Provide specialist structural engineering support during occasional site visits, ensuring seamless integration of engineering solutions on-site.
  • Business Acquisition Support: Contribute to Business Acquisition activities and FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) study execution by providing structural engineering expertise.
  • Mentorship: Train and mentor junior and graduate engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Educational Background: Degree qualified or higher in a relevant Engineering Discipline.
  • Professional Experience: Extensive experience in structural engineering and analysis of offshore and subsea steel structures. Strong background in sea fastening, lift rigging, and installation aid design.
  • Chartered Status: Chartered Engineer status is preferred, or the candidate should be approaching Chartered status.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with structural analysis software such as STAAD Pro, FS2000, ANSYS, and ABAQUS. Capable of producing and checking detailed design documentation.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Ability to lead a design team, manage multiple projects concurrently, and work effectively under deadlines. Strong collaboration skills to work across various teams and disciplines.
  • Industry Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of industry codes, standards, and design guidelines. Proven ability to deliver stress analysis work and support package engineering and management.
