We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team at a primary school in Tring with a specialised SEN provision. This role focuses on providing 1:1 support for children with Autism, ensuring that they can fully access the curriculum and thrive in an inclusive learning environment. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to deliver tailored support to meet each child's individual needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to children with Autism, helping them engage with classroom activities and develop essential skills.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher to adapt and modify lessons to suit the learning needs of the pupil(s).
  • Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and strategies to support communication, social interaction, and sensory needs.
  • Offer emotional and behavioural support, using positive reinforcement to build self-esteem and independence.
  • Work as part of the SEN team to deliver tailored interventions and assist with the social and academic development of pupils.
  • Support pupils in a range of activities, both within the classroom and during break/lunch times.
  • Liaise with parents and external professionals to ensure that the child's educational and personal needs are being met.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with Autism or other SEN in a school setting is highly desirable.
  • A caring, patient, and nurturing approach, with a passion for helping children reach their potential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with children, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent are preferred but not essential.
  • Knowledge of PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and/or Makaton is an advantage, but training will be provided.
