9.00am to 5pm Monday to Sunday 22.5 hours per week

Rota will be as follows: The successful candidate must be available for these days and times due to slotting in with another candidate who is working the other days:

Week 1 – Thursday to Sunday 9am to 5pm (4 days)

Week 2 – Thursday to Friday 9am to 5pm (2 days)

Week 3 - Thursday to Sunday 9am to 5pm (4 days)

Week 4 – Friday to Sunday 9am to 5pm (3 days)

Week 5 - Thursday to Friday 9am to 5pm (2 days)

Week 6 - Wednesday to Friday 9am to 5pm (2 days)

Pay Rate:

  • Monday to Friday rate: £12.82 per hour paye inclusive of holiday pay
  • Saturday rate: £18.00 per hour paye inclusive of holiday pay
  • Sunday rate: £23.00 per hour paye inclusive of holiday pay

Job Summary

The Assistant Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking meals for patients and staff, ensuring adherence to food safety standards, and maintaining a clean kitchen environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • The preparation and cooking of meals for young people and staff.
  • To carry out general kitchen tasks in order to provide a clean and tidy environment
  • Daily checking of stock, cooked foods etc. and temperature of refrigerators and deep freeze. Ensure ‘Used by’ or ‘Best Before’ dates are adhered to in accordance with the Trust Food Safety System and HACCP.
  • Maintaining a warm, welcoming and homely kitchen and communicating positively with the young people who reside in the home.
  • Ensuring all purchases are within the homes agreed budget.
  • Daily requisitioning of provisions.
  • Ensure the worktops, utensils and items of equipment are cleaned regularly.
  • Reporting any defects in machinery and equipment.
  • Reporting of accidents and incidents in accordance with Trust procedures.
  • Report to Assistant Social Work Manager and Social Work Manager of any infestation of vermin, insects, - ie mice, cockroaches, etc.
  • Ensure that standards of personal hygiene are maintained.
  • Liaise with Assistant Social Work Manager and Social Work Manager regarding presentation of Daily Menu for young people and staff.
  • Attend as required training courses/sessions.
  • Ensure procedures for waste disposal are adhered to and food bins are properly maintained.
  • Report to Assistant Social Work Manager and Social Work Manager any medical condition such as skin rash, vomiting or diarrhoea.
  • Ensure meals are served at correct temperature

Skills and Experience Required

Experience working as a cook in a commercial or healthcare setting.

NVQ level 1 & 2 in Catering Qualification or and Guilds 706/1 plus 706/2 or equivalent.

OR

Relevant experience as a cook working within a commercial catering/Health Care facility

CIEH Level 2 Food Safety.

Basic Food Hygiene Qualification
