We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Night Shift Engineer to join our team at the Diss Site.  The role will work on a night shift basis, but it will also involve some weekend and Bank Holiday working when needs dictate.  Full flexibility to cover sickness and holiday absence on other shifts is required, when appropriate.

Key job requirements 

  • To provide a responsive engineering service to the Site Operations Management Team to ensure high machine availability, efficiency, reliability, safety and quality standards are achieved and improved upon.
  • To provide effective and long-term solutions to address and improve machine reliability issues.
  • Identification and recovery of fault situations on all processing equipment and ancillary devices.
  • Monitoring and adjusting equipment and process conditions to ensure that 'right first time' quality is achieved.
  • Maximising equipment utilisation by carrying out effective preventative maintenance procedures, timely calibrations, routine safety checks on all processing equipment.
  • Always promoting an environment of continuous improvement and assisting in process improvement projects. 
  • Installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Any other duties as directed by your Line Manager in line with the job role, following suitable training. 
  • Working on the machines during factory shutdown periods is necessary and expected.   

Qualifications (essential and desirable)

  • Apprenticeship trained/HNC qualified in an electrical or mechanical discipline. 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Candidates will need to have recent experience within a manufacturing environment and both mechanical and electrical experience is needed. 

Electrical

  • Fault finding on electrical circuits, with experience on AC variable speed drives (Lenze, Sew, Control Techniques, Siemens) and DC drives (Siemens, ABB, SSD) is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Siemens S5, S7 and Allen Bradley PLCs.  

Mechanical

  • Understanding hydraulic systems. 
  • Understanding pneumatic systems. 
  • Experience of steam systems an advantage. 
  • Experience of mechanical drive systems (power transmission). 
  • General mechanical repairs.

Other attributes

  • An ability to follow health and safety policies and procedures and be proactive in supporting a positive health and safety culture.
  • An ability to participate in proactive problem-solving exercises to address any issues impacting on production and general plant condition.
  • An ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Experience of working on own initiative and as a member of various teams within the operations function. 
  • Good organisational skills with an ability to manage own workload and priorities.
  • Flexibility in terms of all shift patterns. 
  • An ability to act in line with the Company’s values and ways of working.
