Metalis are working in partnership with a manufacturing company who are looking for an experienced Logistics manager to join their team due to growth within the business and a healthy order book.



Role Overview:

The main purpose of this role is to ensure products are delivered on time, in full and error free. With the quality of the product being maintained at all times. You will create a team with excellent customer service, who are health and safety conscious and able to aid continuous improvement to processes across the site. Your team will create a culture of exceptional service to all of their internal/external customer base, producing an environment which strives for excellence. You will provide structure and optimisation to the planning, control, implementation and effective movement and storage of information, goods and services.



Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain a clean and efficient working environment and ensure full compliance with the existing provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Legislation, COSSH and any modifications, additions or improvements that may be introduced.
  • Allocate and manage staff resources according to changing needs
  • Liaise and negotiate with customers and suppliers
  • Develop business by gaining new contracts, analysing logistical problems and producing new solutions
  • Continually try to improve and develop business performance within the constraints of legislation, fuel costs and rising environmental pressures.
  • Coordinate drivers, vehicles, loads and journeys
  • Management of waste management
  • Ensuring health and safety standards are met
  • Assess and recommend ideal shipping methods, routing or carriers to meet necessary parameters, specifications and costs
  • Negotiate rates with carriers
  • Manage KPI's daily, taking action on any areas which need improvement
  • Hold daily PCS meetings
  • Project participation requested within Operations Forum, Board Members
  • Carry out disciplinary meetings as required, in conjunction with the HR team - Note; these will be not be isolated to the Customer Service team
  • Carry out annual reviews and build development plans suited to the skills / attributes gap to each individual
  • Lead / Aid in investigations of all incidents of damage, injury, complaint, or any other non-standard incidents
  • Provide necessary reports for monthly management updates
  • Responsible for department recruitment and retention


Previous Experience:

  • Experience of Managing and developing a team
  • Project Management experience
  • Proactive approach
  • Ability to coach and develop people
  • Logical problem solving abilities
  • IT literate and competent in the use of MS Office applications
  • Well organised and methodical
  • Demonstrates a logical and orderly approach to tasks
  • Able to plan work to balance conflicting priorities and meet deadlines
  • Good administration and planning skills
  • Able to keep cool in a crisis
  • Proven communication and diplomacy skills
  • Able to drive KPI improvement, ideally with the use of Lean methodology
  • Experience within manufacturing / distribution / logistics environment
