Job Title: Occupational Therapist

Hours of Work: Full Time

Key Working Relationships: Multi-disciplinary team, Service Users, Carers, Statutory and Voluntary Agencies

Our client is one of the leading Specialist adult Mental Health and Social Care providers in the UK, with in-patient, rehabilitation, step-down and nursing care provision.

The post holder will work with the OT Lead in developing, implementing, and evaluating the occupational therapy service, ensuring that it is innovative, client-centred, and evidence-based. Whilst overseeing the design and delivery of therapeutic group programmes, the post holder will have responsibility for assessment, care planning and implementation of individual recovery-focused interventions. They will also be responsible for all requirements relating to the Mental Health Act (1983) and its’ 2007 amendments, including the provision of reports for review meetings, hearings and tribunals for clients detained under the Act. The post holder will be an active member of the MDT and will work within the principles of the agreed model of care for the service as laid down in each units’ operational policy.

Clinical

  • To demonstrate excellence in clinical practise through assessment and treatment which includes the promotion of recovery, social inclusion, normalisation, and quality of life for an identified case load.
  • To develop person centred and occupation focused care plans with clients, and to review these collaboratively on a regular basis.
  • To work with the OT Lead in developing therapeutic programmes with an emphasis on creativity and innovation
  • To keep relevant, accurate and timely records of treatment programmes and interventions in line with College of Occupational Therapists standards
  • To contribute to MDT meetings, presenting an occupational therapy perspective on clients’ overall care plans through the provision of verbal and written reports
  • To consult with all the various external agencies involved in the delivery of care, to promote partnership working.
  • To ensure effective and appropriate methods of communication between members of the MDT, clients, carers, and external agencies are always maintained.
  • To be aware of and implement effective risk management approaches and techniques in collaboration with the MDT.
  • To ensure the legal requirements of the Mental Health Act (1983) and its 2007 amendments are met.
  • To provide an evidence-based service to clients which complies with legislation, policies and procedures and relevant quality governance and local and national guidelines.
  • To promote choice and empowerment through client involvement in all aspects of service provision
  • To respect the individuality, values, cultures, and spiritual diversity of clients and contribute to a service which meets their needs.

Education and Experience

  • DipCOT/Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current registration with the Health & Care Professionals Council
  • Experience working as an Occupational Therapist in a mental health setting with clients who have complex needs
  • Clear and demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the unique skills through which occupational therapy can benefit clients and families in a mental health setting.
  • Ability to formulate clear and effective care plans for clients in conjunction with the MDT. • Ability to motivate junior staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, and able to present information accurately.
  • Ability to motivate individuals to work towards identified goals.
