Duration: 6 Months +

Rates: £17.00 per hour PAYE / £22.44 Umbrella

Shift: Monday - Friday, Days

Orion Rail are looking for multiple Mechanical Fitters with a knowledge and understanding of working on Diesel Engines.

Do you have previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter working on any of the following; HGV / PSV / Heavy Plant / Rail Diesel Traction or Military vehicles? Reach out to us, as we would love to speak with you! 

As the Mechanical Fitter your primary responsibility is to perform mandatory servicing and associated repairs on large diesel traction systems. This role requires a strong understanding of vehicle mechanics, hydraulics, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities & Activities for the Mechanical Fitter:

Mechanical Fitter Expertise: Utilise your deep understanding of vehicle mechanical interfaces to carry out repairs on vehicle components. This includes the installation and repair of hydraulic systems and the overhaul of various components.

Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings, and apply this knowledge to repair and maintenance tasks.

Health and Safety Compliance: Take responsibility for your own health and safety, as well as the safety of others, by promoting a positive health and safety culture in the workplace. Ensure that all health and safety obligations are met, and that company policies are strictly adhered to.

Quality Standards Maintenance: Ensure that all activities contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the company’s ISO standards (9001, 14001, and 45001).

Training & Mentorship: Participate in training sessions as required, and provide mentorship to trainees and apprentices when applicable.

Environmental Responsibility: Ensure that waste is disposed of correctly and in line with company policies.

Task Management: Adhere to written or verbal instructions, and complete tasks within realistic timeframes.

Incident Reporting: Promptly report any safety concerns, hazards, accidents, or incidents by the end of your shift to allow thorough investigation and prevent reoccurrence.

Qualifications required for the Mechanical Fitter position: 

Minimum requirements NVQ / City and Guilds Level 3

Full apprenticeship in a Mechanical discipline
