Portsmouth Golf Course is one of Hampshire's busiest golf venues with an 18-hole course boasting fantastic views over The Solent. We also have a clubhouse which is home to our Bar & Restaurant area.
We are now looking for a Deputy Head Greenkeeper to join our team. The role would suit someone with established greenkeeping experience who is looking to join a forward thinking, supportive company. You will contribute towards the management of the golf course and have aligned responsibilities. This is a great opportunity to progress your career.

This is a full time position and due to the nature of the position, you must be available to work early starts and some weekend cover.
Duties include:
  • Deputising for the Head Greenkeeper in their absence.
  • Supervisor to the assistant greenkeeping team to ensure standards of work are maintained and tasks completed.
  • Preparation and maintenance of the 18-hole course, practice areas, workshops and general amenity areas.
  • Routine in-house machinery maintenance.
  • Supporting the management of the weekly, monthly and annual maintenance programmes.
  • Working closely with the Head Greenkeeper to optimise course aesthetics and ensure courses are set up correctly each week.
  • Assisting with managing the machine/equipment/buggy fleet to ensure all equipment is correctly maintained and serviced.
  • Health & Safety regulations in all areas of responsibility. Possess a working knowledge of legislation relating to chemicals and dangerous substances. Promote safe working practices at all times.
  • Check facilities, plant, buildings and equipment to ensure safe working practices and Health & Safety legislation compliance.
  • Help train, develop and motivate staff to continuously develop their technical skills and user relations.
  • To undertake other duties as may reasonably be required.
Among the personal characteristics & qualifications sought will be:

  • Initiative with the ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • NVQ Level 2, 3 or equivalent in Sports Turf Maintenance.
  • PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying certificates (Preferred but not essential)
  • CS30 and CS31 chainsaw certificates. (Preferred but not essential)
  • Knowledge of the use and maintenance of modern greenkeeping machinery.
  • Knowledge of automated irrigation systems.
  • Knowledge of all health and safety legislation relating to greenkeeping equipment and also chemical and waste handling.
