My client is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join their Birmingham office, where you will be an integral part of a vibrant, multidisciplinary team. This role offers the chance to work on a wide array of UK-based projects, including high-profile residential developments, major infrastructure, and mixed-use sights.

Senior Ecologist | Role Overview

As a Senior Ecologist, you will play a key role in leading and executing ecological projects from start to finish. Your work will encompass everything from early-stage due diligence and feasibility assessments to post-planning implementation, including habitat restoration and biodiversity conservation. You will also take a lead in ensuring projects meet Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) standards, helping to leave the natural environment in a better state than when projects began.

Senior Ecologist | Responsibilities:

  • Lead and conduct ecological surveys, assessments, and mitigation strategies.
  • Manage projects from feasibility through post-planning, including habitat restoration and biodiversity conservation.
  • Prepare and review technical reports (PEAs, EcIAs, BNG assessments).
  • Provide ecological advice to clients and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).

Senior Ecologist | Requirements:

  • 3-6 years of experience in ecological consultancy.
  • Strong knowledge of UK ecological legislation and planning policies.
  • Proficiency in report writing and project management.
  • Experience with protected species licensing and EIA processes.
  • Full UK driving licence required.
  • Membership or working towards CIEEM/Chartered Ecologist status preferred.

Senior Ecologist | Benefits

  • A competitive salary that reflects your experience and skills.
  • A flexible benefits package tailored to your lifestyle.
  • A supportive, team-oriented work environment.
  • Exposure to a diverse range of projects, from large-scale infrastructure to smaller, standalone ecological surveys.
