Independent Forgings and Alloys (IFA) is one of Britain’s leading independent aerospace and industrial forgers. The unique feature about IFA is the combination of open and closed-die forging while also undertaking the whole production process from raw material to the finished product in one location. Operating from a 680 000ft2 facility in Sheffield, we manufacture high-integrity, open-die and closed-die forged components in nickel alloy, titanium, stainless steel and carbon alloys for customers and tier-one suppliers within the aerospace, nuclear, power generation, marine as well as oil and gas sector.

Main Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the NDT Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of Visual and Dimensional inspection of machined forgings and wrought products, marking of ID numbers and packing goods for despatch when required. Where suitable documented training is held, additional responsibility for Positive Material Identification (PMI). 

Key Accountabilities

  • Hands-on Visual inspection.
  • Hands-on Dimensional inspection.
  • Marking of products prior to despatch,
  • Generation of Inspection certification.
  • Generation of part specific inspection technique sheets.
  • Packing of goods for despatch, if required.
  • Positive Material Identification (PMI).

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Experience in a similar work environment.
  • Excellent working knowledge of technical documentation.
  • Good IT Skills.
  • Flexible, pro-active and self-motivated approach to work.
  • Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication and liaison skills.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Documented evidence of on-the-job training in a similar role.
  • Manual handling ability
  • Slinging / Crane Operation qualification

Desirable:

  • NAS 410 / EN 4179 or PCN Level 2 Visual Inspection Qualification.
  • Experience/qualifications in other NDT Methods (Dye Penetrant, Magnetic Particle etc)
  • Forklift Truck License.
