Coating Technicians

£35,350 - £43,610/annum Plus Overtime Rates Travel & Accomm

We are seeking an experienced Coating Technician to join our Fleet Turbine and Maintenance Group at Heysham 2 Power Station. The successful candidates will play a vital role in maintaining and protecting critical infrastructure such as cooling water systems, including valves, pumps, and large heat exchangers, by applying high-quality coatings and finishes. This role is primarily based at Heysham 2 but may require working fleet-wide when there is a demand.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for coating application to industry standards by mechanical means, including the use of hand tools and blast machinery.
  • Apply appropriate coatings using spray, brush, and trowel techniques, ensuring adherence to technical specifications.
  • Conduct inspections to verify coating integrity and quality, making necessary adjustments or repairs as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineers and maintenance personnel to determine the most effective coating solutions for each component.
  • Maintain accurate records of coating activities, including materials used, application techniques, and inspection results.
  • Follow safety procedures and ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
  • Assist with the maintenance and repair of coating equipment and tools as necessary.
  • Stay updated on industry advancements and best practices in coating technology.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • ICATS/SSPC certification as an Applicator, with a specialisation in Blasting and Spray Painting.
  • AMPP/NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) or ICORR (Institute of Corrosion) certification is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Coating Technician or similar role, preferably within the power generation or industrial sector.
  • Certified Belzona Applicator for 1000 and 2000 series coatings, with in-depth know of Belzona 1000 and 2000 series products, application techniques, and surface preparation methods.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and material safety data sheets.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce high-quality work within defined deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot coating-related issues.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to work in a physically demanding environment and follow strict safety protocols.
  • Availability to work flexible hours and participate in occasional on-call duties.
