Jackson Hogg Procurement division are excited to be partnering with a leading engineering organisation in Newcastle on the appointment of a newly-created Buyer to join their team, due to substantial growth that the company are facing. 

This is a full time and permanent role offering up to £43,000 per annum with an outstanding benefits package on offer. 

Working hours are typically around Monday to Thursday 08:30-16:30 and Fridays 08:30-14:00 but flexibility can be offered on this. They also offer 1 day a week hybrid working. 

We are looking for an experienced Buyer with manufacturing or engineering experience, and who can read/understand technical drawings. 

The Role:

  • To compile and send out RFQ’s for parts.
  • To evaluate quotations, to ensure they meet the needs of our requirements and that the costs quoted are in line with our quality, cost, delivery targets.
  • To place purchase orders in supply chain against requisitions, all PO’s will need to be placed in accordance with requirements, within budget, and in line with the supplier’s quote.
  • Managing open orders for critical items through to delivery including expediting. 
  • Ensure Purchase orders are maintained and updated to record any change required
  • Liaise with accounts department regarding payment terms for suppliers, checking invoice queries and arranging credit accounts with suppliers where necessary.
  • Arranging collection of parts from foreign and UK suppliers.
  • Issuing import instructions (when required) to inform agent on how to declare each import 
  • To provide support to other members of the team during leave and peak periods preventing delays in order placement and to provide continuous service to key stakeholders.
  • Attendance and participation at internal and external progress meetings as well as representing the supply chain function at corporate meetings when required.
  • Supporting the Supply Chain Manager in evaluating the challenges faced by the organisation and the supply chains and taking action to mitigate risks and to develop opportunities, including identifying new suppliers, reviewing capacity plans and meeting future demand

The Person/Specification:

  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings
  • Demonstrate experience working in a supply chain organisation. Previous experience as a buyer within an engineering/manufacturing background (ideally mechanical/electrical/defence/aerospace).
  • Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills
  • Strong background of suppler relationship management.
  • Experience influencing and negotiating.
  • CIPS certification or other relevant professional
