The Opportunity

Are you ready to play a critical role in one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the UK? EDF's Hinkley Point C (HPC) is seeking a Work Authorisation and Permit to Work Assurance Officer to ensure that work activities across the HPC Project are compliant with safety standards and permit conditions. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a project that will power millions of homes and set new benchmarks in nuclear energy.

Contextual Information

As a Work Authorisation and Permit to Work Assurance Officer, you will be the cornerstone of safety and compliance on the HPC site. Your primary responsibility will be to monitor permitted work activities to ensure they align with site standards and regulatory requirements. You will also perform assurance audits on contract partners, ensuring they adhere to the safe systems of work, and will play a key role in the Work Authorisation and Permit to Work process

Principal Accountabilities

  • Assurance Monitoring: Conduct assurance monitoring with Contractor Partners to ensure compliance with the Permit to Work, Risk Assessment, Method Statements, and other Principal Contractor documents and standards.
  • Non-Compliance Reporting: Report any non-compliance findings to the Permit Office Manager and highlight best practices observed.
  • Collaboration: Develop and maintain strong working relationships with Site Construction, Safety, and Technical Teams.
  • Procedure Implementation: Work closely with Safety and Admin Teams to develop and implement new procedures.
  • Reporting: Contribute to weekly and monthly reports, maintaining performance and KPI indicators.
  • Communication: Proactively maintain open lines of communication with field teams and NNB Site Managers to ensure cohesive operations.
  • Work Coordination: Work closely with HPC Project Managers to ensure contractors operate within their work instructions, risk assessments, and permits.
  • Permit Issuance: Ensure all work requests are verified, with Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and other documents reviewed and validated before issuing Work Authorisations or Permits to Work.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Knowledge & Skills

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of UK Health and Safety regulations, particularly the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM).
  • Experience working in a Permit to Work environment, with the ability to remain calm and methodical under pressure.
  • High level of accuracy, tenacity, and a results-oriented attitude.
  • Excellent organisational skills and computer literacy.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of an organisation.
  • Discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with electrical or mechanical industry best practices.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent industry-recognised qualification.
  • Auditor/Lead Auditor qualifications.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience in auditing, inspecting, and reporting as part of a previous role.
  • Experience in administering Work Authorisation and Permit to Work processes on large-scale projects such as power stations, refineries, or petrochemical plants.
  • Background in Engineering, Construction, or a process-driven environment.
  • IOSH certificate or equivalent industry-recognised qualification.
  • Experience in multi-discipline construction works and interface management.
