Lecturer in SEND and High Needs

Location: Rotherham

Salary: Up to £31,413 per annum + benefits (dependent on TQ & experience)

Hours: Full time (37hrs per week, all year round)

The Role

They have an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer to join their FLEX curriculum team at their Rotherham Campus. This is a real opportunity as a passionate and innovative teacher and industry-skilled specialist to make a real difference to young people and adults who have SEND; Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities.

The role of lecturer is to equip their students with skills for their future through the delivery of outstanding education and training and inspire students to achieve their potential. This role offers you the opportunity to do this every day. It is the job satisfaction that comes from this that makes a teaching role special. 

In this curriculum area they deliver to a wide variety of students who have SEND. In this role you will be responsible for delivering and leading on various study programmes to students with SEND; often from pre-entry to Level 1. This could include; Employability and personal Development Qualifications, Independent Living Qualifications, Supported Internships, English and Maths as well as offering and delivering bespoke programmes to meet the individual needs of students.

Working with a supportive team including leadership from Curriculum Managers and the Director of Campus, as well as working alongside other Curriculum team leaders and lecturers. This established team of education professionals deliver an engaging and personalised project-based curriculum, leading their future students onto further education opportunities into their chosen vocational pathway, preparing them for adulthood, independent living, and ultimately into employment.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Have relevant knowledge, skills and experience of working with, and supporting students with SEND, as well as experience delivering, assessing and verifying a variety of pre-entry to Level 1 study programmes.
  • You should have experience of co-ordination and managing a range of courses and be able to give their students an enriching a fulfilling experience from day one.
  • You will have a teaching qualification and level 2 literacy and numeracy/equivalent as well as a relevant professional/vocational qualification in SEND.
  • You will have good contacts with industry professionals as appropriate, and work with them effectively to shape their future curriculum as well as providing excellent opportunities for students with SEND to enable them to fulfil their potential and progress into adulthood.

Department Info

Your line manager will be the Curriculum Manager and you will regularly report on your objectives to update them on a range of KPI’s including (but not limited to) student recruitment, retention, anticipated achievement, progress, attendance and punctuality.

You will be part of a Curriculum and Department team, working with other teaching staff to develop and share good practice in the area and may also be required to participate in cross college teams or working groups on key projects.
