The Vacancy

We have an opportunity for an experienced Anti Money Laundering (AML) and Client and Matter Inception (CMI) Manager to join our Risk and Best Practice team. 

The role will include day to day management of the firm’s client and matter inception process and system and offering advice on file opening queries (including client due diligence, source of funds/wealth and PEP/sanctions/adverse media checks).

We are looking for someone to join either our Bath, Oxford or Swindon office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the MLRO, leading on day-to-day requests for assistance from legal assistants and legal teams regarding client due diligence requirements and documentation,source of funds/wealth and background screening checks
  • Creating and providing training to staff performing the client and matter inception administrative process
  • Responding to queries raised about the Peppermint client and matter inception process, including systems issues, assistance with completing the file opening risk assessment and anti money laundering risk assessment, and queries regarding conflicts of interests checks
  • Managing the operation of our client onboarding software (currently Thirdfort and Creditsafe), including adding new user accounts, reviewing reports which have ‘failed’ or require review and provision of training on how to use the system
  • Management of the Peppermint CMI process – seeking stakeholder feedback on the system and identifying opportunities to change/improve the system; offers expert guidance and training on how to use the system
  • Advising on potential politically exposed persons, sanctions and adverse media matches, creating summaries for approval by the MLRO/Risk Committee as required
  • Creating and delivers firmwide client due diligence and client and matter inception training and communications 
  • Other AML/CMI related tasks as required

Skills, Experience and Attributes

  • Experience of working in risk and compliance in a law firm
  • Expert knowledge of the AML/CDD requirements for clients of a law firm and experience of analysing client due diligence/identification documentation to ensure it satisfies regulatory requirements
  • Use of electronic identification and background screening software
  • Management of a law firm client and matter inception process and experience of providing guidance and support to others
  • Minimum degree-level education or equivalent
  • AML qualification (desirable)
