One of our local authority clients are currently recruiting for a Fire Risk Officer. This is a 6 month temporary contract with possible further extension based on budget and performance.

Main Purpose of Post/Job Summary

To ensure the highest standards of fire safety & provide expert advice. To ensure that Tower Hamlets Homes (THH) meets the requirements of all Fire & Building Safety legislation. To reduce the risk of fire to all housing stock through effective management of fire risk assessments.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To ensure THH complies with all relevant Fire Safety legislation and BS/EN standards
  • Provide expert technical advice on the application and interpretation of fire safety guidance
  • To provide a leading role in the development, implementation and management of THH Fire Safety Strategy
  • To commission and manage the annual programme of Fire Risk Assessments ensuring that all risk assessments are completed in line with contractual requirements
  • To take responsibility for the management of fire risk actions arising from risk assessments
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure all Fire Safety risks are considered and eliminated when considering new projects and contract reviews
  • Review and evaluate fire safety design submissions for suitability and sufficiency and develop recommendations to resolve any identified deficiencies
  • Where necessary audit and help evaluate Fire Risk Assessments, Fire Policies and Safety Plans from contractors to ensure they are reducing the risk of fire as far as is reasonably possible
  • Investigate any fire related incidents in THH stock and work with colleagues to ensure that all follow up measures are completed
  • To work effectively within the Fire Risk and Building Safety Team and deputise for the Fire Risk Manager when required.
  • To produce complex written reports as required
  • To carryout a programme of fire safety inspection across the housing stock
  • To provide training for staff as required
  • Be actively involved in the national fire community through local and national forums, national conferences, and associated societies
  • To have strong advocacy and communication skills to ‘sell’ the benefits of fire & building safety to stakeholders and provide assurance to residents
  • To have strong client management skills to ensure partnerships/contracts work effectively, deliver intended benefits, and can be developed further for mutual benefit.
  • To deal with residents’ queries where necessary.
  • Carry out other reasonable ad hoc duties to support the Directorate which are commensurate with the expectation of the post as directed by the Fire Risk Manager.
  • To manage all LFB notices and ensure compliance with deadlines.
