Description

Our local government client is recruiting an Early Years Cook - to provide children and young people with adequate quantities of adequately prepared, wholesome, and nutritious food based on their cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds and dietary needs and choices (including the selection of vegetarian meals and to be responsible for planning menus with varied diets and ordering and preparing nutritious meals that are culturally appropriate and medically sensitive. This role is ideal for Early Years Cook looking for 25 hours per week.

Responsibility

To provide a balanced menu that meets clients' cultural/dietary needs and to vary the choice within the constraints of the budget. Ensure that the food/drinks required for each day's menu are correctly reheated and attractively served using portion control. Ensure that the kitchen and dining area, utensils/equipment, and food are kept clean and tidy, following health and safety standards, including the safety of service users, are maintained.

Qualification – Essential

  • City & Guilds Food Preparation & Culinary Arts or
  • NVQ 7247 in Hospitality & Catering or
  • Primary Certificate in Food Hygiene
  • Certificate in Health & Safety

Essential - Skills, Abilities, & Experience

  • Solid experience preparing a variety of different meals to meet the special dietary requirements of the children.
  • Able to ensure that all foods produced are prepared and cooked correctly, complying with health, safety, and food hygiene standards.
  • Experience in cooking for large numbers & planning and implementing menus.
  • Able to organise the time to prepare meals within the hours allocated and served on time. 
  • Experience maintaining a high standard of recording about menu planning, food ordering and stock rotation.
  • Experience dealing with food supplies.
  • Experience checking deliveries for quality and quantity against the official order.
  • Able to ensure that stock rotation is practised and stores are maintained neat, tidy, clean and safe.
  • Able to maintain a high kitchen and equipment cleanliness and hygiene standard.
  • Able to ensure kitchen equipment is kept in good condition and report any faults promptly.
  • Able to communicate with children and young persons and attend staff meetings.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation relating to usage and storage of food.
  • Knowledge of Food Hygiene Legislation and ability to keep abreast of current legislation relating to food.
  • Knowledge of the nutritional requirements of children.
  • Understanding and commitment to the Equal Opportunities policy

Essential Compliance Requirements

  • Five Years of References.
  • Enhanced CRB/DBS Within Last 12 Months
  • A pre-engagement screening is mandatory for this role.
