Senior Planner (6-Month+ Contract)

Location: York based 3 days a week with 2 days working from home

Duration: 6 months+ (with strong potential for extension)

Start Date: ASAP

Day Rates (inside IR35): Depends on experience, rates can range below:

Intermediate Planner £350-400 per day

Senior Planner £450-500 per day

Planning Manager - £550- £600 per day

About the Role:

Join our client’s consultancy team as a Senior Planner, working on a critical major infrastructure rail project. This role focuses on substation projects and offers a long-term contract opportunity with significant potential for extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performance Analysis: Conduct in-depth performance analysis, comparing project performance against previous forecasts. Produce detailed reports using earned value analysis, critical path analysis, resource allocation, and look-ahead schedules.
  • Dashboard Reporting: Design and implement dashboard reports to track progress, analyse schedules, and identify trends, enhancing project maturity.
  • Contractor Assessment: Evaluate contractor’s time impact and delay claims due to instructed changes. Provide comprehensive analysis to the Project Manager to support the accurate implementation of compensation events.
  • Schedule Management: Develop and maintain project schedules across the entire project lifecycle, from the Development Consent Order stages to tendering and high-level construction programming.
  • Procurement Schedule: Update and maintain the procurement schedule weekly, adding new projects and providing status updates to the commercial team.
  • Risk Management: Support program risk assessment and analysis, developing and implementing mitigation measures to ensure project success.
  • Cost Forecasting: Work closely with Commercial Managers to monitor and forecast schedule costs, performing re-targets or re-baselines as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in project planning, ideally within large infrastructure inclusive of rail projects.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
  • Skills: Strong analytical skills with expertise in earned value analysis, critical path analysis, and schedule management.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective reporting and stakeholder engagement.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with NEC contracts and construction programming is essential.
