Role purpose:

This is a long-term key role within the UK Sonobuoys Business bridging both in service production and support and development of product enhancements. This is an opportunity for an individual to grow as part of a proud close-knit team working on a high profile strategically important project, within a business that is the Sonobuoys partner to the Royal Navy and supplier to global allies with a reputation for agility and product innovation.

The successful candidate will be reporting into the Sonobuoys Project Manager with the Head of Systems Engineering as their functional Line Manager.

Who will own the engineering activities for Sonobuoys Production projects and will be responsible for ensuring that the project engineering scope is achieved within the committed timescales and budget in accordance with approved engineering management plans.

Experience needed:

This role will be suitable for an experienced engineering leader with demonstrable success of engineering management and team leadership, with an appreciation of complex engineering in a regulated industry and experience of leading development across the product lifecycle, including:

• A foundation in Systems Engineering with an understanding of Software Engineering and ideally a background in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
• Experience of producing engineering schedules with dependencies
• Experience of engineering estimation, with an ability to review, challenge and justify estimates
• Experience of management of risks, assumptions, issues, decisions, and opportunities
• Ideally with experience of Work Package Management

Desirable:

• Experience in the Sonar / Defence would be advantageous.
• Sonar awareness would be useful but is not essential.
