This practice continued into the 20th century until modern electronic gas detectors were developed, today’s gas detectors are far more advanced and can detect a wide range of gases with precision, making it safer to monitor gas levels and prevent risk and save lives!

The Product Manager will serve as the strategic leader for a portfolio of Fixed & Special instrumentation, both current and future. This role is central to managing the entire product lifecycle, ensuring the ongoing product ownership and maintenance of existing devices, and driving the design and development of new products.

In addition to supporting the growth and sales, the Product Manager will play a key role in educating and informing the broader organization and its partners. The Product Manager will need a good technical understanding of electronic gas detection equipment or experience working with relevant devices that meet high regulatory standards.
 
Day to day:
  • Take full responsibility for managing the full range of instruments.
  • Conduct product feasibility studies and market research to identify customer challenges and propose innovative solutions for new products.
  • Gather feedback from external partners and internal stakeholders to ensure products align with current and future needs.
  • Collaborate with the international sales team to review and assess existing market strategy for all products, suggesting improvements where necessary.
  • Assist in developing validated business cases for proposed projects before drafting Market Requirements Specifications (MRS), detailing essential features for key stakeholders.
  • Create and maintain product roadmaps that align with the overall market strategy and cover the entire product lifecycle.
  • Partner with Project Management, R&D, and Operations teams to ensure timely, budget-compliant delivery of new products, adhering to the MRS.
  • Provide product and application support to the sales team, empowering them to achieve business targets through global subsidiaries and distributor networks.
  • Offer product and application insights to all partners to enhance their capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial Services Manager to ensure an efficient and rapid supply chain.
  • Monitor global trends to secure a leading market position against competitors.
  • Supply sales and marketing teams with necessary product information for the creation of promotional materials, including technical bulletins, manuals, data sheets, comparison guides, and video content.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of 'Go-To-Market' strategies, including potential test marketing and product launch activities.
 
The ideal candidate will have good experience in product management, with a strong technical expertise. While formal product management training is desirable, a customer-oriented mindset and the ability to build effective relationships are essential. Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence at all levels are crucial. They should be eager to manage a comprehensive product portfolio, making decisive, timely actions based on available information.

Strong numeracy skills for data analysis and business case development, coupled with solid industry knowledge and an understanding of market drivers such as legislation and technological advancements, are essential.
