We are currently seeking an exceptional candidate with a background in law enforcement to bring their unique skills and experiences into a teaching role within our team.

Role Overview: Are you ready to make a difference in the lives of young people? Do you have a passion for guiding and mentoring those who need it most? As an ex-police officer transitioning to teaching, you will leverage your experience in law enforcement to create a positive and disciplined learning environment. Your skills in communication, conflict resolution, and community engagement will be invaluable in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and tailored lessons that meet the diverse needs of students within the PRU.
  • Build positive relationships with students, using your experience to act as a role model and mentor.
  • Implement and uphold the PRU's behavior management policies, fostering a safe and respectful environment.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies to support students' academic and personal development.
  • Develop and implement individualized learning plans, focusing on both academic progress and social-emotional growth.
  • Monitor and report on student progress, ensuring that all safeguarding procedures are followed.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills, honed through your experience in law enforcement.
  • A high level of emotional intelligence and the ability to empathize with students facing significant challenges.
  • The ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations, providing stability and reassurance to students.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to undertake relevant training in education and safeguarding.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a police officer, with a strong understanding of community engagement and support.
  • A passion for working with young people and a desire to make a positive impact on their lives.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or a willingness to work towards obtaining teaching qualifications.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • The ability to adapt to a dynamic and sometimes challenging working environment.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience working with young people in an educational or mentoring capacity.
  • Knowledge of restorative practices and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by students in a PRU setting.
