Production Supervisor

Food Manufacturing
Rochdale

£38,480

Plus 36 days holiday

Mini version of this pretty long advert:

It pays over £38k.

You’re working 2pm to just after 11pm, Monday to Friday, in a stonking great factory with 36 days annual leave, loads of other benefits, cracking discounted food and only managing nine people.

All I ask? You take five minutes and read the rest of this to see if it’s actually for you.

The Job

Imagine this. You’re only managing nine people. You’re managing one manufacturing line.

When you turn up to work, it’s pretty easy to get there. You’re just off the motorway. There’s loads of parking.

You walk up to the building. It’s brand new. When you go in, you get there a bit early. Why? Because the food is bloody lovely and is incredibly cheap. The canteen is more like a Frankie and Benny’s than a hospital canteen.

The factory is busy. There’s loads going on.

And you?

You’ve got a great line manager. You’ve got a team who are bought into the business. You’ve only got the nine of them to manage.

And you’re allowed, and expected, to actually manage.

You do the coaching. You do the encouraging. You do the disciplining. You do the grievances.

Your shift stays the same. All the time. So you don’t have to mess up your sleep for the sake of your employer. And you can plan things with friends and family in advance. Without checking, etc.

You’ll work from 2pm until just after 11pm. Ten past, to be specific.

You’ll get 36 days off a year. Which is almost two months. Which is basically more than I’ve heard of any other employer offering in 12 years of doing recruitment.

So you’ll get more time off than either your friends, family or the managing director of pretty much any manufacturer I’ve ever heard of. Your shift won’t change, you’ll have the freedom to actually manage your team and the support to do it well. You’ll do it plush surroundings and eat fresh food made by chefs in a genuinely nice environment.

Oh, and the pay isn’t bad either.

The Site

The site is ridiculously well invested. They’ve just spent about nearly as much as PSG did on Mbappe on this one site*. And it shows.

You get a lot more factory for your cash in Rochdale than you do for footballers in Paris. The equipment is new and is really high quality.

The building itself is really nice. If, like me, you’ve seen your fair share of factories – you’re likely to be impressed. And it’s nice to walk into a nice place to go to work.

Also, the factory is busy. They have customers lining up to do business with them, which means that your job is more than secure.

Things you might not like

Well, firstly, the factory is cold. It makes food, and its not getting any warmer. So if you can’t stand working in the cold, then it probably isn’t for you. I mean, you obviously get a coat etc, but still, you probably need to know.

What else?

Well, you’re going to have to manage people. So if someone needs to improve, then you’re going to have to help to improve them. It can be setting a good example, and coaching, or training. You can’t be ignoring things which are done wrong. So you’re going to have to manage.

Not everyone likes that. So – well, so you might not like it.

You

You’ve worked in a factory. Ideally a food factory. If not food, something FMCG.

And you’re probably upbeat. Because who wants to work for a miserable manager?

And after that, there’s one thing they want.

Someone who can manage. Who has managed. Actually.

Because a lot of people – they don’t. They don’t manage. They don’t do disciplinaries. They don’t coach.

There’s a trainer onsite. There’s support. There’s people to ask. But you’ve got to have done some of it before. And to want to do it.

Good news is – if you do, and you want to take your career seriously – this could really be for you!
