Interim Associate Director of Finance and Assurance

We are working with an NHS organisation who are seeking to appoint an Interim Associate Director of Finance and Assurance for a short term role. The role will start ASAP and will be for 3 months initially with an expectation of extension up to 6 months.

The role will be remunerated at Band 8c AfC under the NHS Agency Caps and will have hybrid working with a base in the Midlands.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the effective management of the Financial Services teams providing a comprehensive Financial Accounting service to the Trust;
  • Responsible for the central Financial Management team providing support to corporate budget holders, managing the Trust’s financial systems and co-ordinating the production of the monthly budget statements for the organisation;
  • Responsible for VAT accounting and provision of advice on corporate tax matters;
  • Management of the Capital Accounting function to ensure that capital expenditure is accurately accounted for and that capital limits are met;
  • Responsible for the effective management of the transaction processing activities in the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions;
  • Ensure the statutory Annual Accounts are accurate, completed to a high professional standard and are submitted in accordance with national and local timescales;
  • Provision of expert, technical financial accounting advice;
  • Production of regular reporting in an accurate and timely manner (e.g. NHS England returns, Board report, ICB reports);
  • Ensuring the submissions to NHS England (e.g. financial plan, monthly reporting) align with the Board / Committee reports and are submitted on time;
  • Developing and maintaining financial control processes and procedures;
  • Acting as the day to day contact for both Internal and External Audit colleagues.
The successful candidate will have/be:
  • Professional Accountancy Qualifications or level 7 equivalent, (e.g. CCAB / CIMA Qualified);
  • Expert knowledge of technical accounting standards, including IFRSs;
  • Knowledge of NHS Financial regime and current issues;
  • Able to provide strategic advice on complex financial issues to senior managers and non-financial staff;
  • Recent financial accounting or reporting experience;
  • Recent experience of technical accounting issues;
  • Experience of corporate tax issues (including Benefits in Kind) and VAT administration;
  • Previous experience of finance in the NHS.
