Job Title: Head of Production (Rolling Stock)

Location: Bedfordshire, UK

Salary: Circa £70,000 - £82,000 per annum (Dependent on Experience) + Car/Car Allowance (£587 per month) + 12.5%-25% Performance Bonus

Company Overview:

A leading business in the rolling stock industry, committed to delivering high-quality products and services. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Production to oversee our operations in Bedford. We are open to candidates with backgrounds in rolling stock, aviation, armed forces, automotive, or bus industries.

Role Overview:

The Head of Production will be responsible for managing and optimizing the production processes within our Bedford facility. This hands-on leadership role requires a strong focus on safety, performance management, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in a production environment, preferably within rolling stock, and possess a solid understanding of safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Production Management: Oversee all aspects of production, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Safety Leadership: Lead by example in promoting a strong safety culture. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, and proactively address any potential risks.
  • Performance Management: Implement and manage performance metrics to drive efficiency and productivity within the production team. Identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance operational performance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Champion continuous improvement initiatives across the production floor. Use lean manufacturing principles to streamline processes, reduce waste, and optimize resource utilization.
  • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a skilled production team. Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Stakeholder Management: Work closely with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure seamless production operations. Liaise with senior management to report on production performance and propose strategic improvements.
  • Budget Management: Oversee the production budget, ensuring cost-effective operations without compromising on quality or safety.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Ideally you will be working in a production management but we will consider technical managment or Team Leading / Supervisor role within the rolling stock, aviation, armed forces, automotive, or bus industries.
  • Safety Certifications: Ideally IOSH or NEBOSH certified.
  • Skills: Proven track record in safety and performance management, with a hands-on approach to leadership. Strong knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field is desirable.
  • Other Requirements: Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
