TeacherActive is proud to be working with a SEND school in North Birmingham, supporting with their recruitment for a SEND Learning Support Assistant / LSA. The setting is centred on pupil’s development, as well as an intrinsic desire to make progress both academically and with their own emotional, social and behavioural skills.

The school is seeking a passionate team player to take on this short-term role, although there is potential for this to become a long-term placement for the right British Sign Language Support Assistant / BSL LSA. The successful British Sign Language Support Assistant / BSL LSA will bring a new dimension and skill set to this role, be keen to develop their own skills to adapt to the children’s individual needs and have a positive impact on the wider school.

The position will involve working with students across all Key Stages with diagnosis of hearing impairments. A proactive thinker with the ability to take control of situations confidently is necessary.

The successful British Sign Language Support Assistant / BSL LSA will have:

• Experience working with children with additional needs / disabilities
• The ability to communicate fluently through the use of British Sign Language.
• A good understanding of learning processes.
•  The ability to follow instructions from the teacher and also be able to work independently.
• The ability to deal positively with children.
• The ability to manage behaviour effectively and remain calm and non-confrontational.
• The ability to use ICT effectively.
•  The ability to implement assessment for learning under the guidance of the teacher.
•  Show initiative and work independently.
