Job Title: Senior Residential Care Worker

Location: Birmingham 

Sector: Social Care - Residential Care

Reports To: Deputy Manager/Registered Manager

Job Overview:

As a Senior Residential Care Worker, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day care and support to young residents in our care home. You will lead shifts, ensuring the safety, well-being, and development of the young people in a warm and supportive environment. You will also assist in implementing care plans, supporting the home’s operational policies, and guiding junior staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Care and Support: Provide high-quality care, ensuring residents' needs are met through individual care plans.
  • Shift Leadership: Lead shifts, ensuring all staff are informed and tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Team Management: Support and supervise junior staff, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Health & Safety: Adhere to health and safety regulations, report incidents, and ensure a safe environment.
  • Resident Activities: Plan and arrange social, recreational, and educational activities, including outings and holidays.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records, including incident reports, care plans, and daily logs.
  • Liaison: Work with families, advocates, and external professionals to support residents' well-being.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Essential:

    • Minimum 1 year of experience in a residential setting with children or young people.
    • NVQ 3/Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
    • Experience in leading a team and managing staff.
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Desirable:

    • Experience with challenging behaviors.
    • Knowledge of children’s home regulations and quality standards.
    • Good IT skills and organizational abilities.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call duties and sleep-in shifts.
  • Ability to physically intervene if required for safety.
