As Senior Care Assistant the role is to support the duty person in charge and his or her assistant in all aspects of the Home’s management, including taking temporary complete charge during the absence of the duty person in charge and his or her assistant. (This will include weekend on-call responsibilities in a shared capacity with other Seniors). To help train junior members of staff in all aspects of their work in the Home and undertake such work where necessary.

To operate emergency cover procedures when necessary.

  1. Help to ensure that all junior and domestic staff contribute to the best of their ability to the efficient running of the Home and the creation of the right atmosphere.
  2. Assist clients who need help with washing, dressing, undressing, bathing and toileting.
  3. Help clients with mobility problems and other physical disabilities such as incontinence; help in the care and making the best use of aids and personal equipment, providing comfort with dignity.
  4. Help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of clients through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies, shopping and recreations.
  5. Make and change beds, tidy rooms and do light cleaning.
  6. Inspect, launder and mend clients’ clothing.
  7. Cook and serve meals, wash up utensils. (Kitchen staff are employed for all major cooking and washing requirements. This duty relates to emergencies, pre-prepared meals or light snacks requested by residents out of hours.)
  8. Lay tables and trays, serve meals and assist residents at meal times if required, clear and tidy dining room.
  9. Answer nurse call system, the door and the telephone and act on accordingly.
  10. Greet visitors cordially, offer refreshment and attend to reasonable requests with regard to their relationship with the resident and offer any information where appropriate.
  11. Read and write reports in case notes.
  12. Take part in staff and client meetings and also in training activities as required.
  13. Administer medication as listed in residents’ records using the Care Quality Pharmacy blister packs and policies and procedures in place.
  14. Care for residents’ who are temporarily unwell.
  15. Help care for residents’ who are dying.
  16. Observe the Home’s Health and Safety Policy at all times.
  17. Carry out duties with regard to Home Fire Regulations policy.
  18. In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder is required to perform other duties assigned by the supervisor/manager from time to time.
