Cover Supervisor - Exciting Role Available

We are pleased to present an excellent opportunity for a dedicated Cover Supervisor to join a dynamic team at a thriving secondary school. This role is ideal for individuals who are committed to supporting students and teachers in a vibrant educational environment.



About the Role:

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in:

  • Supervising classes during the short-term absence of the class teacher, ensuring students remain focused and complete the work left for them.
  • Facilitating high-quality learning experiences in the absence of regular teachers.
  • Covering regular PE lessons under the guidance of the PE team.
  • Performing general administrative duties when not covering lessons, contributing to various school functions.


Purpose and Scope:

  • Provide supervision to entire classes to cover teacher absences, implementing lesson instructions and maintaining classroom order.
  • Assist with supporting other groups and classes as needed when not covering staff absences.


Principal Responsibilities:



Support for Students:

  • Oversee students during learning activities and handle immediate issues or emergencies.
  • Manage student behavior according to the school's ethos and policies.
  • Model high standards of conduct and address student queries while ensuring they stay on task.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom environment in line with the school's equal opportunities policies.


Support for Teachers:

  • Provide constructive feedback to teachers on lesson conduct and student behavior.
  • Collect and return completed student work, and maintain necessary records as agreed with teachers.
  • Assist teaching staff during large exams or test groups.


Support for the Curriculum:

  • Facilitate the use of ICT in lessons as appropriate.
  • Ensure effective organization and use of classroom resources and equipment.


Support for the School:

  • Accompany student groups on school trips, ensuring their safety as directed by the lead teacher.
  • Adhere to policies related to child protection, health and safety, and data protection, reporting any concerns appropriately.
  • Support diversity and ensure all students have equal learning opportunities.
  • Participate in required training and other professional development activities.


Desirable Qualities:

  • Experience working with both adults and young people.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to stay calm and handle crises effectively.
  • Flexibility and openness to understanding student backgrounds and their impact on learning.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, organizational abilities, and ICT proficiency.
