Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Head of Learning & Development; As a member of the ‘Learning and Development’ team the key purpose will be partner with managers and business leaders on learning and development activities.   It is about engaging key stakeholders to drive positive employee performance through continuous development in a fast paced environment. 

Key Tasks/Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the continuing development and implementation of the apprenticeship strategy and the effective use of the apprenticeship levy.
  • Responsible for the learning and development offering across the business (identification of need, design, delivery and evaluation) and the communication thereof to ensure equality of access for all.
  • Responsible for liaising with the Responsible Business Unit and Staff Network Groups to devise the EDI Learning and Development strategy for the business and the associated implementation plan.
  • Responsible for the continuous improvement and implementation of career pathways (leveraging work where appropriate / required for external trade partners).
  • Responsible for leading the completion of Training Needs Analyses to cover all stakeholders within the wider leadership group (supported by the L&D Officer and the Head of L&D).  Collate the data and understand key gaps in the L&D offering from this activity and with the L&D Officer, design L&D events which plug these gaps.
  • Partnership / key account manager role within a range of depots, departments and divisions
  • Responsible (with the Head of L&D) for driving the completion rates of Growth Chats and Conversations (Performance Development Reviews) across the business and the extraction and provision of training requirements which arise from these.

Person Specification: 
  • Basic education (numeracy and literacy) - ESSENTIAL
  • Education to Batchelor’s degree / similar professional qualification / relevant work experience at that level - ESSENTIAL
  • Management or CIPD qualification at Level 5 or relevant work experience at that level – ESSENTIAL (DESIRABLE LEVEL 7)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development – ESSENTIAL
  • Project management qualification or demonstrable and relevant project management experience of monitoring and evaluating operational plans, objectives and projects to achieve and influence change. - ESSENTIAL

Skills / Abilities / Knowledge / Experience:
  • Significant experience of developing and delivering high quality training and cost effective programmes to a variety of stakeholders within a variety of different organisations ensuring that they are fully embedded and aligned with strategic priorities.  Programmes to be delivered on time and on budget, with an understanding of different learning models and delivery techniques.
  • Experience of preparing strategic reports for Executive Board level.
  • Provision of a strategic L&D business partnering service to managers (including the ‘wider leadership team’) including high quality guidance and support in developing and progressing learning solutions to achieve business objectives.
  • Uses HR data and information to build a business case which enables point of need development and which adds significant value in terms of measurable, improved performance.   
  • Handles sensitive material with strict confidentiality and in line with GDPR.
