Location - Exeter

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Senior Estimator to join a Tier 1 Main Contractor to work within their Infrastructure - Water South Business division based in Exeter. Successful candidates would need to demonstrate past' experience of working within the water industry.

Senior Estimator - The Role

The Senior Estimator will be responsible for the preparation and submission of tenders, under a variety of forms of procurement. Working as part of a team with the objective of securing profitable future workload for the business. Utilise construction knowledge and commercial experience in conjunction with other members of the bid team to ensure competitive bids. Risk and Value management during the tender period. Preparation of budgets and cost plans.

Senior Estimator - Responsibilities

* Appraisal of tender documents.
* Preparation of material and sub-contract enquiries including the selection of prospective subcontractors.
* Attending strategy / opportunity meetings with project team.
* Site visits to identify site specific risks.
* Contribute to the design development process and attend design team meetings as required.
* Preparing tender BoQs
* Preparation of analytical cost estimates including preliminaries.
* Prepare budgets and cost plans.
* Adjudication and comparison of sub-contractor quotations.
* Initiate technical queries and ensure design sufficiently developed to ensure accurate costings.
* Risk management throughout the tender period and preparation of the tender Risk Register.
* Value engineering throughout the design phase of design and build projects.
* Presentation of the tender to be presented to senior management at tender settlement meetings including the highlighting of any major commercial issues of elevated risk.
* Completion of tender documentation and submission of the tender.
* Ensure a smooth handover of the project to the operational team.
* To support and be familiar with own role and responsibility in respect of Business Continuity Planning. Ensuring that team members are also aware of the plans and communicates same.

Senior Estimator Requirements

* Construction related Degree - BSc Quantity Surveying & Construction Management
* A minimum of 10-years' experience in a similar role.
* May suit a Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong experience within preconstruction
* Extensive experience of estimating projects to the value of £25MIL
* All forms of contract including traditional, partnering, design & build, 2 stage tenders and frameworks (essential).
* Experience of using estimating software (essential).
* Develop personal skills and capability through on-going training, experience, and mentoring.
* Awareness of BIM.
* Cost Planning.
* Be able to build-up an estimating from first principals, understanding outputs, methodology to develop sequence and programme. Compare outputs and sequence with the tender planner to compare and adjudicate.
* Presentation skills.
* Creative and innovative approach to problem solving.
* Ability to lead and develop others.
