Job Title: Interim Principal Building Surveyor

Location: East Midlands

Contract Type: 12-months interim

Spencer Clarke Group are seeking an experienced Interim Principal Building Surveyor to lead a multi-disciplinary team of property professionals, on behalf of a Local Authority client. This key leadership role will be responsible for managing the maintenance and development of a diverse portfolio of buildings, including care homes, schools, libraries, offices, historic listed buildings, and more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee a varied portfolio of properties, from modern new constructions to historic listed buildings
  • Provide strategic leadership to support the maintenance, development, and reshaping of the Council's property assets.
  • Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team of surveyors and technical experts, ensuring delivery of programmes of work, statutory compliance, and budgetary targets.
  • Provide expert guidance and advice on building maintenance, property management, and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure that maintenance management services are delivered effectively and efficiently across the property portfolio, meeting legal and statutory obligations.
  • Oversee maintenance strategies and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments, stakeholders, and external partners to deliver core Council services, supporting both operational and strategic property management objectives.

Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications

  • Relevant degree in Building Surveying, Construction Management, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Significant experience in building surveying, property maintenance, and asset management across a range of building types.
  • Proven experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams, with the ability to lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team.
  • Experience working on historic or listed buildings, ideally with knowledge of heritage conservation practices.
  • Strong understanding of building maintenance disciplines, statutory compliance, and legal obligations related to property management.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple programmes of work and meet deadlines.
