JOB PURPOSE:

As the Senior  Raw material Buying Manager for My Client, your primary responsibility is to drive cost effective, sustainable procurement strategies. Your role is crucial in ensuring all raw materials sourced, meet the necessary costings and P&L parameters to produce peat-free products, specifically wood chip, brash, and bark.

You will work closely with the Operations and Procurement Directors and internal teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to optimize the supply chain and drive cost-effective buying results for the Division.

Main Duties:

Key Responsibilities:

Supplier Management:

  • In conjunction with Procurement Director, Operations Director support the negotiation of all raw material contracts, support, identify, evaluate, and manage a network of reliable suppliers for wood chip, brash, and bark.
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure consistent pricing delivering the budgeted P&L.
  • Liaise with the Procurement Director to negotiate supplier contracts and terms to secure favourable long- term agreements, building long term partnerships for the future.

Sourcing Strategy:

  • In conjunction with Head office team help develop and implement a comprehensive sourcing strategy to ensure a stable and cost-effective supply of raw materials.
  • Continuously monitor market trends, supplier performance, and industry developments to make informed sourcing and financial decisions.
  • Explore sustainable sourcing options and ensure adherence to environmental and ethical standards.

Cost Optimization:

  • Collaborate with finance and production teams to optimize procurement processes, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings while maintaining product quality and consistency.

Quality Assurance:

  • As part of contract negotiations liaise with the operations and technical team to establish and enforce regulatory standards for raw materials.
  • Establish supplier KPIS as part of contract negotiations to support the management of consistent reliable raw materials.

Stock Management:

  • Monitor and manage stock levels to prevent shortages or overstock situations.
  • Implement stock control measures to reduce costs.

Compliance and Regulations:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to procurement and sourcing.
  • Stay updated on legal requirements and industry best practices.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare regular reports and analytics on procurement performance, cost savings, and supplier performance.
  • Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.
  • Team Leadership:
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence within the department and wider teams.

Job requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Forestry, Agri or a related field.
  • Proven experience in procurement, buying with at least 5- 7 years in a management role.
  • Strong negotiation, contract management, and supplier relationship management skills.
  • Commercial knowledge of cost management and financial project management.
  • In-depth knowledge of forestry raw materials and the supply chain processes.
  • Familiarity with sustainable sourcing practices and environmental regulations.
  • Analytical and data-driven mindset with proficiency in procurement software and tools.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
