Job Summary:

As an Agency Registered Midwife, you will provide comprehensive maternity care to women and their families during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period. Working in various NHS settings, you will ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care, adhering to national guidelines and best practices. Your role will encompass clinical duties, patient education, and emotional support, contributing to positive maternity experiences.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Antenatal Care:

    • Conduct assessments of maternal health, including physical examinations and health history reviews.
    • Provide education on antenatal care, nutrition, and lifestyle choices to expectant mothers.
    • Monitor fetal development through regular check-ups and discuss findings with patients.
  • Intrapartum Care:

    • Assist in the delivery of babies, providing continuous support and monitoring throughout labor.
    • Administer medications and pain relief options as needed.
    • Recognize and respond to complications during labor, collaborating with obstetric teams.
  • Postnatal Care:

    • Support mothers and newborns during the postnatal period, including breastfeeding assistance.
    • Educate families on newborn care, safe sleeping practices, and maternal health.
    • Conduct home visits if required, assessing the health and wellbeing of mother and baby.
  • Record Keeping:

    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality.
    • Document care provided and any significant changes in patient conditions promptly.
  • Patient Support and Education:

    • Offer emotional support and counseling to mothers and families, addressing concerns.
    • Facilitate parenting classes and workshops to prepare families for childbirth and parenting.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork:

    • Work collaboratively with obstetricians, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss care plans and share updates.
  • Professional Development and Compliance:

    • Engage in continuous professional development and attend training sessions.
    • Adhere to NHS policies, procedures, and best practices, including infection control.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Essential:

    • Registered Midwife with a valid NMC Pin.
    • Experience in maternity care within an NHS or similar healthcare setting.
    • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Desirable:

    • Experience in specialized areas such as high-risk obstetrics or neonatal care.
    • Additional qualifications in midwifery-related fields.
