We are seeking a Project Officer to to join our small friendly team to celebrate and support young people to tell the story of Woodcraft Folk during its centenary year based in Darsham Country Centre. You'll join us on a part time, fixed-term until March 2026, and, in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £27,979 - £33,486 pro rata.

About the role

Woodcraft Folk is a registered charity, passionate about co-operation, children’s rights, youth leadership and outdoor education.

Woodcraft Folk was established in 1925, in response to the First World War, by young people seeking to build a better future based on peace, international understanding and equality.

Woodcraft Folk is open to everyone, providing play and youth work opportunities to children and young people up to 21 years. We support children to take the lead at every level of the organisation, including 50% of our Trustees being under 25 years.

The Project Officer role:

This role would be of interest to anyone with a passion for social action, storytelling and creativity. Using items from Woodcraft Folk’s archive you will empower and equip young people to celebrate 100 years of education for social change. Working with the UCL Special Collections team, Museum of Youth Culture and the Co-operative Heritage Trust, the Project Officer will co-ordinate project activities.

As our Project Officer your responsibilities will include:

  • Workshops, supporting young people to learn about archiving, handling techniques, conservation challenges and cataloguing
  • Photography, storytelling and interpretation sessions
  • Project residential
  • Contributing to Woodcraft Folk’s Camp100 programme
  • Producing a book, celebrating the achievements and contributions of young Woodcraft Folk members over the last 100 years
  • Creating a touring exhibition which will visit London, Manchester, Rochdale, Blackburn and Kettering

What we are looking for in our Project Officer:

  • Experience of working in a youth engagement or youth work setting,  facilitating projects with young people, with a good knowledge of youth engagement and motivation techniques
  • Experience of co-production and partnerships, working with young people, volunteers and partner organisations
  • An interest in archive, creativity and story-telling
  • Resilient and able to work independently as require
  • Experience in evaluating learning experiences and outcomes
  • Prepared to work flexibly to meet the needs of young people and the organisation
