Building Officer

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Building Officer to join our small team at SAFS. 

Hours: 37 hours per week - Flexible between 08:00am to 21:00pm (Site Based Role)

SAFS is an award-winning organisation which provides a range of quality health and social care services in Sandwell, Birmingham and neighbouring boroughs to children, young people and adults with disabilities, complex health needs and/or life-limiting conditions.

About the role

SAFS is responsible for managing the Windmill Community Centre and we are seeking to recruit a Building Officer who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and overseeing the maintenance of the Windmill Community Centre working closely with Senior Management and the Buildings team.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role (Essential)
  • The ability to work flexibly to ensure the smooth running of the Windmill Community Centre, working occasional evenings and weekends, and to attend the centre at short notice  (Essential)
  • Knowledge of health and safety and fire safety and the ability to ensure all regulations are followed  (Essential)
  • Previous experience in bookings e.g. venue hire, room hire (Essential)
  • A proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders  (Essential)
  • Previous maintenance experience in an office or community centre environment  (Essential)
  • Previous experience of key holding duties including fire and intruder alarms  (Essential)
  • Previous experience of undertaking health and safety risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of basic security measures  (Essential)
  • Educated to GCSE Grade ‘C’ or equivalent qualification  (Essential)
  • Good numeracy skills  (Essential)
  • Proficient IT skills including systems  (Essential)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  (Essential)
  • Previous experience of key holding duties including fire and intruder alarms (Desirable)
  • Previous experience within the care sector (Desirable)
  • Previous experience of supervising a small team (Desirable)
  • First Aid training (Desirable)
  • Fire Marshall training (Desirable)
  • Full clean driving licence (Desirable)
